LINOLEUMS

Is it necessary to glue linoleum?

Unfortunately, many people still use the old-fashioned way of laying PVC floor coverings in the old fashioned way, i.e. do not glue them to the base, but only partially fix them along the edges: with nails, double-sided tape, plinth. As a result, waves and protrusions are formed on the linoleum, which does not in the best way affect the appearance of the linoleum and causes its rapid wear.

Why is this happening? In the case of linoleum, waves are formed in places where the material does not fit snugly to the base, these are the most vulnerable and wear-prone areas of the coating. The floor covering is usually prone to change in size, this is due to climatic conditions (changes in humidity and temperature). So in the heating season, when the apartment is dry and warm, the linoleum decreases and gaps appear noticeably between the non-glued linoleum joints. But with the arrival of spring, when the humidity of the air increases, the linoleum can stretch again, while bubbles will appear on its surface, which will be impossible to correct in the future.

In this regard, the leading manufacturers of PVC floor coverings recommend gluing linoleum to the base, and for high-quality installation of floor coverings, glue with good shear strength is required. You can apply the glue yourself if you have time to spare. However, if you are not confident in yourself and want to achieve a brilliant result, then it is better to turn to specialists. The craftsmen have already mastered the quick and accurate laying of linoleum, learned how to select reliable means for gluing, so you can be sure about the durability of the coating.
